this year marks the 35th anniversary of the restoration of the national college entrance examination or gaokao in chinese. due to the political turmoil of the cultural revolution, chinese universities stopped enrolling students by exam from 1966 to 1976. but since the college entrance exam was reinstated in 1977, millions of chinese have taken the annual exam, and many have their course of life changed because of this. china drive is going take a closer look at what the gaokao has achieved over the past 35 years, as well as the challenges this most influential examination in china faces.
