teaching aims:
to help students learn english and its history.
to learn important words and phrases in the reading.
to improve their reading comprehension skill by fully participating in the activities
teaching procedure:
step one: lead-in
ask students to talk about some questions about english.
1. are you good at english? what do you think is the most difficult part of studying english, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary or something else?
2. what do you know about the history or development of the english language?
3. do you think english has always stayed the same?
4. if english changed, how did these changes happen?
step two: reading comprehension
1.fast reading . ask students to read the text quickly and answer three questions.
what are the three kinds of english discussed in the article?
old english, middle english and modern english.
in what way is english still changing? english is still changing in many ways, such as in vocabulary and pronunciation
2.detailed reading. ask students to read carefully and still answer questions and fill in the blanks.
read again and answer the questions.

because it is made up of the grammar and vocabulary that people from different countries and cultures brought with them to britain.
