after graduation bethune moved to montreal and gave free medical care to help poor people there. bethune also set up a free art school for children. bethune left for china in 1938. he worked selflessly as a doctor and saved many chinese soldiers. dr. bethune died from blood poisoning in 1939 and was buried in shijiazhuang.
